SEO - Crawlability

In this article let us try to understand, what is crawlability and why it is important for any website.

Define Crawlability?

Crawlability refers to the ability of the search engine bots to crawl and index pages navigating through each and every web page, without encountering unexpected dead-ends or chained redirects. Crawlability plays a major role in achieving higher search engine rankings.
Inefficiency in website development leads to the barriers that prevent web pages from being indexed by search engines. Therefore, it is advised to avoid using JavaScript or Flash to improve crawl stats of any website.

Diagnose Crawlability

Search Engines do not favor links contained within Frames, JavaScript or Flash and may not follow them. Predominantly, the links that do not appear in the cached text, have some issues in regards to the crawl guidelines. It is recommended to reformat links or create new links to improve crawlability of any website.

For Example - If there are a hundred pages in a website and search engine has only indexed 20 of them then, it could be a crawlability issue.

Why Crawlability is so important?

Crawlability issues are majorly caused by the technical problems within the website. Poor site architecture, inefficient navigation, and excessive file size are a few of them.

Crawlability significantly retards Search Engine Optimization. Pages listed in various search engines have an opportunity to rank on Search Engine Result Pages (SERP's). If the page is not listed in the search engine it can lose all opportunities towards generating conversions.

A full crawlability audit should be carried out to identify technical reasons which block search engine bots to crawl the website and to make the website search engine friendly.
